About Me

I am a not yet 55 year old woman married for 25+ years, 4 kids, 1 dog and 1 cat. The kids are beginning to leave home. One is launched, one is in college and 2 are still at home. As a couple we are entering the final stage of our parenting journey: the teenage years and beyond. We are starting to dream and think and plan for those years when the house is quiet and it is just us once again. Please join me as I explore what it means to grow older with adventure and grace.

Aging with Adventure: Whining is Good for The Soul

Lets see the husband's job is iffy, my daughter banged up the car again (not herself or the other person she hit, thank you Lord)(But she so scraped up that SUV!). I will either lose the use of my car or I will be driving the 19 year old to school and work for a while. How the 13 year old will get where she needs to be is a mystery to be solved later. The 17 year old has issues, grade issues. He seems to think he can get by on charm and not hard work. He is a junior with a very bad case of senioritis.

Whining is good for the soul for about 15 minutes. It is great to say "I trust in God" when trust is just theory not necessity. It is another to live that reality. I have 10 more minutes to whine. I will make the most of it. Than I will pray and see what God will make of my circumstances. I am not yet excited to see God faithful but I will get there....let the adventure begin....

4Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! 5Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. 6Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.Philippians 4

How have you seen God faithful recently?

Sounds like you need some prayers, I will send some your way. Hope your husband doesn't lose his job.

BTDT! Our 19 year old just had her fourth fender bender and was without her car for almost a month. But that's why we keep the old 97 Dodge Caravan...perfect plan, right? Except that visiting missionaries were using that car until the day before we got the other car back.

The best thing, though, is that all unneccessary trips were shaved off, really a blessing in a good disguise.

We do have an extra car now, so if you need it, just call.

Our puppet ministry at church is driven by prayer. We have 6 5th & 6th graders on our puppet team with some of us older folks (50+) in the mix as well. Between the kids' flightiness sometimes, weak arms, old knees, different views it takes God to make our presentation come off welll. Especially this last one we did Sunday, we didn't even have a practice the Saturday before like we usually do and added two new props at our last practice that we hadn't practiced with before the performance. Practices were very rough with people missing their lines and getting confused as to when their puppets should be up. Yet, God comes through time and again. As we pray at each practice and just before the presentation, God helps us do it the best we ever did and everything ran smoothly. Thanks Gina. Always can use prayer.

Thank you Sylvia for the offer. What we really need for this child is a driver...sigh

Karen, Thank you for the words of God's faithfulness. He was glorified and you and your viewers were blessed....perfect. Now I hope you are planning for a little rest!

This is my favorite bible verse, and the first one I memorized. I see His faithfulness everyday, though I often question mine! I talked with a dear friend about whining lately, and we concluded we had to get all of the 'stuff' out that had nothing to do with the real problem to be able to get to, 'now, what's really the matter, and how do I deal with it.' I am grateful for the chance to vocalize without judgement. God is indeed good, and I will pray that the peace that surpasses all understanding guards your heart and mind in Christ Jesus.
