About Me

I am a not yet 55 year old woman married for 25+ years, 4 kids, 1 dog and 1 cat. The kids are beginning to leave home. One is launched, one is in college and 2 are still at home. As a couple we are entering the final stage of our parenting journey: the teenage years and beyond. We are starting to dream and think and plan for those years when the house is quiet and it is just us once again. Please join me as I explore what it means to grow older with adventure and grace.

The Great Christmas Divide

He loves It's A Wonderful Life.

I love A Christmas Story. I just can't watch his favorite one more time.

Bless him, the teens all perfer to watch A Christmas Story with me. They will watch It's A Wonderful Life with their dad on the off chance there really is a Santa and they need the good kid points.

Thank goodness we both perfer colored lights on the tree and roast beef for Christmas dinner or it would get tense around here.

Which do you perfer, It's A Wonderful Life or A Christmas Story? Something else?

I like both movies. Although, my brother loves A Christmas Story and watches it on TNT for the full 24hrs. on Christmas eve and sometimes that can be a bit annoying. :)

We watch them both, they are so completely different. We have so many holiday favorites and one I haven't seen yet is the old version of Miracle on 34th Street, I love that movie!

My favorite Christmas movie is "Love Actually." My husband's favorite is the old Cary Grant/Loretta Young (not the new version) of "The Bishop's Wife."

My partner and I enjoy both movies and we alternate watching them. However, we did have more than a few tense moments when picking out our new artificial tree. We both wanted a pre-lit tree, however I wanted clear lights, while she wanted colored. We literally went to 5 stores, and 2 of them twice, for a total of 7 trips to the christmas departments. All of the trees with colored lights looked sparse and tacky, except for one at Michaels so we doubled back there to get that tree only to find out they were sold out. Our last stop was Lowes and we were there literally an hour and a half, going back and forth amongst the displays. I found a pre-lit tree with clear lights and pine cones that looked incredibly real, the only colored light tree she liked was shorter and sparse and tacky. She finally relented when I repeatedly pointed out how real it looked. I WON! But I restrained myself and did not do the happy dance when she found an employee to haul my selection to the checkout.

My absolute favorite Christmas movie is "Bells of St. Mary's."

I prefer the original version of "Miracle on 34th St", but I just loooooove Christmas movies as a genre. They are all feel-good, even (or especially) Bad Santa.

I love both of them but I don't think I can watch either one again in this life. I think I've seen both every Christmas as far back as I can remember. They are great but I need something different. Sorry.

I know this is bad....but I've never watched either :-( But I did buy the Nativity Story last year and really liked that!

I cannot stand The Christmas Story. No offense to those who like it, but it seems like such a stupid, pointless story. I know, you'll argue with me about that! Lol.

I've actually never seen It's a Wonderful Life.

I guess I'd have to say my favorite Christmas movie is The Muppets Christmas Carol.
