The Grandkids Are Coming: Introduce Them To The Games You Played As A Kid

I saw some jacks at the dollar store and bought them for the fun of it. Tech Princess was about 10 at the time and she had never see jacks before! I taught her to play and she loved it. There are so many games we played as kids that kids today don’t even know about.

Consider introducing you grandkids to jacks, jump rope with the rhymes, marbles, mancala and with a group kickball, double Dutch, Chinese jump rope.

Anyone want to add to the list?

Oh I'd forgotten about Chinese jump rope. I remember teaching my oldest daughter, who's now 18, to play jacks. I'll have to show the younger ones one day too. I don't think they've ever seen that. It would definitely help with hand eye coordination... and it's so doggone fun!

Thanks for the memories!

Don't forget Pick-Up Sticks, Hopscotch, Hide-and-Seek, Kick The Can, Duck Duck Goose, I Spy, Pum-Pum Pullaway, Drop Tag, Freeze Tag. There are more but they are all variations of the same. My, that was fun!

I forgot Dodge Ball and Hide the Thimble. How careless of me.

tiddlywinks and crokinole (sp?)!! I loved that as a kid and I remember my parents and grandmother teaching them to me as a kid :)

How about some old fashioned board games like Life, Monopoly and others that get passed over in favor of video games nowadays.
