Parenting Teens: Too Clever By Half
Thursday, August 27, 2009 at 12:00AM Ichabod is into bodybuilding. He drinks this protein powder mix that comes in these big barrel shaped jars and he was always leaving the jars on the kitchen counter.
I have gotten tired of telling the 18 year old to put the barrel like jars back in the closet and the jar got tired of me complaining about it. Evidently the jar now sees being left on the counter as an opportunity to see more of the world. It has visited the shoe box and resided on the piano and occupied space on the book shelf.
For some reason it annoys Ichabod that his jar of protein stuff was bored on my kitchen counter and it now goes walk about. Why this is I have no idea. He has taken to putting the jar back in the closet so it can no longer visit other areas of the house.
I feel sorry for the jar of protein powder. I know for a fact it was planning to start visiting the second floor and perhaps even make a trip to visit the mail box.

That's just too funny Carol! What a brilliant way to get your point across.
I just love your gentle persuasion! Good chuckle!
ha ha, thanks for the laugh! those kids don't know what we have in us.!
Oh the things I learn from you :-)
Ha! Ha! Just great! I think I will use your ploy to put my plans into action, the strong arm tactics just don't seem to work. Now, can I use this with my husband's stuff also...?
I love the way your mind works! I'm going to have to try that with the myriad of things my daughter leaves out all the time!
I SO love how you think! Good one!!!
You get a Quickie Link for this one.

Also - I will be writing on The Art and Science of Parenting about this, too. That one will probably post tomorrow or the next day.
I absolutely love how his jar went wandering around because it was bored. I'm definitely going to be using this.
That poor jar. It will never know the joys of sunshine, or learn to speak French. And really, who could fault it for wanting to take quick jaunts around the house? It must get stuffy, dark, and lonely in the pantry...there really aren't many things for it to do in there. I mean, who will it make friends with? The crackers and cereal? Ha. They don't begin to hold a candle to such a well-traveled jar of protein.
Oh, what fun we could have together with our children. I humbly bow to your superior intellect regarding the handling of offspring. Rock it, sistah! :)
That is brilliant. I wish I had known about this strategy years ago. Ah well, there's still time - I still have three kids to use it on.
