The Hundred Push Up Challenge: Week 4 Redo!

After struggling last week with The Hundred Push Up Challenge, I was thinking only two more weeks to go, 2 weeks to go. I logged on to the Week 5 workout and discover someone wrote I should be able to max out at 30 push up before doing Week 5. This someone suggests those who fail to make the golden 30 should redo Week 4 and maybe even Week 3.

If I were in my 20s, I would feel myself a failure and give up. In my thirties, I would remain stuck on Week 4 trying to reach the golden 30, eventually fail and give up. This is a joy of being in my 40s closer to 50. I m not bound by anyone else’s standards on issues that are neither criminal nor moral!

I can wear white shoes after Labor Day, vote for the party opposed by my friends (I didn’t but I could), I can read the last page of the mystery book if I so desire (I usually do) and I can (and did) complete 3 marathons by walking not running.

I read ahead. To complete the Challenge you have to do 100 push up but you can do them in sets of ten with rest in between. To my great surprise, I realized I could do this already!

I dutifully redid Week 4 (there is no sense in blowing off a sensible suggestion). I maxed out at 25 push ups.

On to Week 5!

I love being on my 40s!

Are you finding, as you get older you are more able to define for yourself what success is?

The One Hundred Push Up Challenge Week 3: Mea Culpa

Confession time: I did not do three secessions last week. I have no excuse. I wasn’t diligent to do what I committed to do. I will do better this week.

(Please note if you are a teen, copy and save the above mea culpa. It will get you out of a lot of trouble. It will be better of you mean it. If you use the term, “mea culpa” you might so distract your parents with your brilliance they may forget what you are mea culpaing about to begin with.)

I did do 60 push up in one secession this past week! If you suggested I would be able to do 60 (weenie) pushups three weeks ago, I would have begged to differ. Around push up number 50, I had an amazing experience. My stomach muscles chime in to complain with my shoulder muscles that I was abusing them. Ah, lazy stomach muscles need all the challenge they can get! My elbow was clicking away. This challenge is becoming a total body experience.

I expect to hear from my toes some time this week.

This challenge is far more doable than I expected. If you are intrigued check out The Hundred Push Up Challenge web site. This would be a nice Christmas/New Years present to give yourself. To be able to truthfully say, “I did it!” (That was worth a split infinitive)

Think about it!

The Hundred Push Up Challenge Week 2 I Don’t Think I’m Supposed To Click

I did 40!!! pushups during my last set for week two. I did forget to do the max out test. My bad.

If you are ready to take the challange check out this site: One Hundred Push Ups

There are clicks that are very satisfying to hear. My knitting row counter thingy makes a rewarding little click as I change the count to reflect the rows I have completed. There are clicks in life that are uh oh moments. Anything that has to do with my car that involves a clicking noise causes my sphincter muscles to tighten and my credit card to melt.

There are clicking sounds I never under any circumstances want to hear. My former electrician son (now a poor but humble youth pastor) said in the course of his work he had encounter spiders so large you could hear their legs make clicking sounds as they scuttled (hopefully in the opposed direction, ugh).

I myself have never clicked before. For some reason, my right elbow has decided to keep count with my mind as I do the push ups. It is kinda unnerving.

I am pretty sure the human body is not supposed to click.

All said they would give it a try!

If you post about your experience on your blog and would like some linky love, leave the link in a comment or on e-card and I will post the links next Monday when I do my weekly gloat or mea culpa about how I am doing. Please include a link to The Hundred Push Up Challenge web site. This idea is not original to me and link credit should be given where link credit is due.

Last week by the end of the week I did 22 push ups!! (And I learned how to spell push up, two words, not one.) I was a little sore. Day three of week one recommends 120 seconds rest between sets. I though ha! But by the end of the third set (out of 5 sets) 120 seconds of rest seemed very, very reasonable.

I think this is going to be doable in six weeks, probably, possibly, almost definitely….we will see.

The schedule calls for 30 push ups by the end of the week two. Stay tuned…

Better yet, there is still time to join it!

Blogs Worth A Click: The Diet/Exercise Addition

As of Monday September 29th, there are 60 days before the Season of Eating that starts on Thanksgiving and goes through New Years day commences. Unless you start the season on the night of October 31, then you have 36 days to go. I was thinking for myself, now rather than my usually January vow, would be a good time to lose a little weight. Here are some of my favorite recipes sites. The exercise sites look interesting and that is all I have done so far is look at them

Gina Weight Watcher Recipes. I have mentioned Gina before but useful sites deserved to be mentioned more than once. Her recipes are weekday makeable plus Gina has already figures the WW points for you.

Diet Recipes Blog. Also weekday makeable recipes that are different. Here is one for Chow Mein Noodles Honey Nut Crunch Bars that are just 180 calories a serving. That sounds good dieting or not.

There are more good sites out there . These two are ones I actually use. If you have a favorite please leave it in a comment below. I plan to do a commenter’s favorites update.

Just a note, there are many diets sites designed to sell products. Selling stuff is fine. Please suggest sites with original content that has some use other than to market products.

Here are two exercise sites I keep looking at and thinking.. “ You know I should….”

Fit and Fabulous at Forty …the title says it all

The Hundred Pushup Challenge Even the guys might want to check this site out.

Again of you have a favorite exercise blog, do tell in a comment below.

There is an excellent, free, interactive online bible study that deals with the issues of the heart and our desire to overeat available at The Lord’s Table. The intro sounds intimidating. The study itself is supportive.

Finally all that dieting and exercise deserves a reward: Dangerous Chocolate Cake in a Mug from Down Home Kitchen
